OK DIN Partners, and various other readers this week's Knook episode has an extra cheese danish with a cherry on top, so lets get snacking.

It seems to me that Washington DC has been the Protest Capital of the world lately, what with the "Anti-War" Protest (that started on the grounds of "The Mall" and ended up at the gates of the "Washington Navy Yard") and then the 30th Anniversary of "Roe vs. Wade" protests (pro and con in front of the Supreme Court) and Michael Jordan Playing Solo Hoops... wait that was the Super Bowl.

You would think that people who participate in protests have to have a high level of motivation, and determination. On the other hand, I guess they don't have too much common sense or sense or responsibility. You see the Monday following the "Anti-War" protests which was the National "Martin Luther King Jr." Holiday on my way to work, Yes I did have to work even though my company contracts to The US Government and they were off but we weren't and about half our employees who bothered showing up didn't have any work to do since their work is mostly customer oriented and or has to be done inside the government offices in the Navy Yard and their customers were out. Anyway, Normally I transfer from the subway station (AKA: The Metro)Located just west of the Navy Yard to a Bus, or sometimes to one of the contracted shuttle buses that goes directly to my office (located east of the Navy Yard) with a stop at the Navy Yard. But since the Metro Buses were on a Holiday Schedule and I wasn't sure of the shuttle bus schedule, I decided to walk the mile or so to my office. There within the first block between the subway station and the Western edge of the Navy Yard which is technically the South East Federal Center, among the regular seedy neighborhood trash on the sidewalk, I saw the remains of at least three protest signs made from some cardboard, some posterboard and across the street from the Yard next to a secondary door to a Government Office building (or more likely another contractor's building) I saw a full protest sign propped up upside-down by the door. The protest sign read "No Blood for Oil" whoever left it and the folks who left the other signs should be ashamed of themselves.

Moving right along. This past Sunday was "Super Bowl Sunday" as DIN readers now know, if they didn't before or live in countries where it's not a spectacular deal. Super Bowl XXXVII overall for me wasn't too exciting. I tuned in during the Hank Williams Jr. & Kid Rock? "Are You Ready for The Super Bowl" special song/video. Saw the Dixie Chicks sing the National Anthem "The Star Spangled Banner" and I'm wondering how many people thought that Celine Dion singing "God Bless America" was just wrong or at least weird. A Cannadian singing about The US as "The Land That I Love"? OK she's living in the US doing Vegas, But I digress. The game was kind of blah up until the time when the Raiders began to realize, as the Rams did last year, that this was The Championship Game of the Season. Yea The Bucs Won this year that makes up for my dissappointment from last years Rams loss to the Patriots. The Rams are one of my Favorite teams along with the Redskins, Panthers and Ravens, sometimes the Bucs, Steelers and Seahawks, but Never the Cowboys, Lions or Giants.

OK here are some of my quick views and oppions from Sunday Night. As I said overall the game itself was kind of so-so untill the last half. I am not a big fan of John Madden or Al Michaels so that contributed to my first half semi-boredom. It didn't help the fact that often times Al's pronunciations reminded me of Howard Stearn. OK onto some of the Ads:

  • I loved the Budweiser Clydesdales/zebra ref ad. I seem to recall last year they had the Clydesdales playing ball also, but I forget what happened, maybe TJ can refresh our memories.
  • I enjoyed the Pepsi Twist Ozbornes/Osmonds ad but it was overhyped pre-game so it lost some of it's flavor, whoops that's just the Pepsi after taste.
  • Siera Mist Sea-sawing Monkeys was OK, even though The Washington Post's Tom Shales (who I tend not to agree with) said it was a lame 2001: A Space Oddessy rip off.
  • Most of the Bud-Light Ads I found really distasteful (pardon the pun) although I liked the Poodle-Head, and the three-armed guy ads. Again I think Mr. Shales hated those.
  • The Smirnoff Ice Blind Date ad with Oh Brad...You know the rest.
  • I missed the Jimmy Kimmal ads (the guy from the stupid Man Show and the very intelligent Win Ben Steins Money) cause the Local ABC station wasn't quite on top of switching off of the Network feed onto the local ads, I guess they didn't show a post-game show that he was supposed to host?

Then there was the Half-Time Show: Hey I didn't even know about the SNL (Stupid Night Live) thing on NBC, I'm glad I didn't I heard it really sucked.

OK Shania Twain gets 10 out of 10 for being Great looking and singing her biggest hit, but minus several billion for her Outfit. From the Male perspective it's "WOW" but for The Super Bowl it was kind of tacky. The Video Screen Stage platform was Very Very Tacky. And going for the Cherry Picker Ride, I think Shales called it "Gratuitous", was not needed. Gwen Stefani with No Doubt, song was OK her double bra look Ugg, perhaps if the outer one was more like her other halter tops or a sports bra maybe. And Those Dancing Gymnastics Punk Gwen Clone Girls Barf. Then Sting started in on Classic Police song "Message in a Bottle" was cool, and then Gwen jumping in was neat, but Sting wearing the two "World Cup" t-shirts t-shirt Tacky. Not being familiar with Soccer or what most of the world calls "Football" I couldn't identify the teams he was wearing. That wraps this episode up, sorry if it was lengthy, I tend to babble.

Thank You and See Ya! Next Week,

    Kirk
