YOwZA! WowZA! Great Bambini! They say pictures speak a thousand words but silence apparently speaks volumes as well. By all the massive comments, complaints and what-have-youze that Editor TJ got last week over my absence one can determine that I've got a gig for life here, for life, for life Lechiem! Now I didn't want to talk about negative things like that this week, I've got plenty of other negative things to rant and rave about. (Warning here comes some sarcasm.) OH DEAR I missed the premire of Married By: America, and I wanted to marry that cute brunette strip club dancer. Or was she a redheaded defense attorney? :< OK enough of that. Grab your hats, seats and your partner's seat and lets get going with this week's episode. Life in the City, the Capital City of Washington DC is certainly unique. Prices on lots of things are rising and moving on up to that deluxe apartment in the sky. Fines for illigal parking and expired parking meters have just been raised. Tour Buses apparently will be hit hard cause the city said they can't stand around in many places they used to and they can't stand with the engine idling (which helps keep the engine running smoothly but the city doesn't care about that little bit). OK that doesn't really affect me so I probably won't notice that. However a couple of things announced within these last few weeks will affect me and force me to go looking for a job outside the city, or transfer within the company. The first thing that affects me directly is the raise in fares for the Wasington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) bus system and subway rail system, AKA: "METRO". Just when I was sort of comfortable with spending $5.50 a day subway PLUS .25¢ bus fare with transfer plus $1.50 Parking (or anywhere from $2.50 - $3.50 in the county owned parking Garage) They raise the fares again. A commuter's tax has been proposed that would tax people who work in DC but live in Virginia or Maryland (as I do). It of course has received very mixed reactions. I don't really like it but if it isn't too much of a tax then I'd tolerate it, sort of. Another legislative plan that was proposed I am absolutely positively against. That one would be a residency law that would require anybody working in the city to actually live in the city, which would suck big time. I don't see that one passing, because that would also mean, guess what folks, Yup that would mean that congress and house reps would have to live in the City instead of their posh mansions in the suburbs of Mclean and Fairfax, VA, Potomac and Chevy Chase, MD. Let's face facts folks DC, although not an anchient city is a pretty old city and most if it's residential areas within the city are not very pretty, where as the suburbs usually are and some areas are drop dead gourgous. So if the feds say if you work in the city you gotta live there, I for one will get a job outside the city...Hmmmm I think I'm overqualified and speak English too well to get a job with Mikey D's again. Well that about does it for this week...
*Note to Self: Don't miss another week ever again. Thank You and See Ya! Next Week, Kirk
