Kirks Year In Review

KIRK L. ANDERSEN * klandersen@aol.com * (work) No I better not put that here.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

December 2005

(The Return of The Year In Review!)

Welcome to my 6th Annual Year In Review Holiday letter. I have kept up better with this one and made it slightly more accurate than last years disaster. OH right, last Year I didn't send one of these, not even to my family, Sorry. I tossed together a version and posted it on my new personal website with my own domain www.klandersen.com (hit the Year In Review link and then the yir2004 link. I registered the site sometime last year (2004) and finally got around to biting the bullet to pay for a service provider.
I'm still in the process of "Constructing" the site but there is some bare bones up there for the world to see. All good websites are still under construction... and all the bad ones too. I post all these Year In Review letters there so you can check out the archives of them. This letter isn't about my website, so let the yearly review resume.

Work at CSC is the same old same old, that is to say it is BLAH!.

JANUARY: New Years was the same old same old, stayed home, cried in my soup, watched some TV barely watched the ball drop. OK so I didn't cry in my soup, I didn't have any soup that's why I was crying. Maybe next year I'll have some soup. Started working on my new website, cool. OH and 2005 was a year for Milestone Birthdays in my family, my oldest Brother Neil turned 50 at the end of this month.

FEBRUARY: Guess what? More milestone birthdays happened this month, My Mother turned 75, and my Grandmother hit the BIG 100. Winter was very cold and had lots of snow, my friends living in Miami are just laughing their heads off when they hear about the cold weather and snow "up North". Well you got to live somewhere don't ya?

MARCH: 2004 WATCH Awards Ceremony, Kensington Arts Theatre (KAT) was nominated for 8 awards (2 Nominations for our production of Tick, Tick, BOOM! and 6 nominations for our production of The Rocky Horror Show), and picked up it's first 2 awards for our production of The Rocky Horror Show. Outstanding Choreography - Diego Prieto and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical - Diego Prieto as Riff-Raff. Congrats KAT & DIEGO. The KAT production of Closer Than Ever ran rather well artisitically, financially it just broke even. We didn't get huge crowds, but what to you expect from a realatively unknown musical review with only 4 people in the cast.

APRIL: Oh another milestone birthday, Yippie I turned 40. I'm sooooooooooooooo thrilled. Rehearsals for The Fantasticks have begun. This KAT production is to be performed at The Gaithersburg Arts Barn under the KAT 2nd Stage banner. Oh didn't I tell you? I have been cast in the role of Mortimer (The Man Who Dies), 8 years ago I got to misquote Shakespeare as Henry so now as punishment I get to die as Mortimer.

MAY: The Fantasticks (Round Two) - Dying is very exhausting, it could kill you. The audiences are loving the show, it is tight and the cast is excellent and fun to work with. The KAT main stage production is Kiss of The Spiderwoman. I helped with auditions for it back in Febuary or March or whenever, but not much else, I was busy dying. OH and I saw my first WASHINGTON NATIONALS game at RFK Stadium. Neat! Baseball be back in DC. Long story short the actor who played Henry has season tickets to both the Nationals and The Orioles, he's a baseball nut and an old Senators fan. His seats for the Nationals are behind the visitor's dugout and aprox. halfway between homeplate and first base. Great Seats! The Nationals beat The Millwaukee Brewers 5-2 (The rest of that 4 games series was Brewers 8-2, Nationals 1-0 & 3-2). Oh I discovered a new nickname for the Nationals via their games in Toronto - The Natpos (Since they were the Expos get it? OK I guess most people will stick with The NATS). Oh I started doing a Blog on my website (Sort of).

JUNE: Saw my Buddy TJ from FL and Da Winchester Gang in Hampton, VA. Um Not much else of noteworthiness this month, so why don't you watch Desperate Lost Alias Guy or something.

JULY: My sister Adrienne came to town from L.A. for the July 4th and for a wedding (I think the son of a friend was getting married). She was in town for aprox. a week, and we (my sister, me, my mom and my Uncle Charlie) dined out Just about every night. Then back to the old grind and the annual SSTG Membership picnic. The Young clan were there for a short while before they had to leave to return to Ireland. OH, since I haven't abused my Radioshack Card in several months, I got a digital camera, it's only a 3.2 Megapixel, but they have a bundled package from HP for $220 (plus tax and extended garuentee junk etc...) which includes the camera (HP307) and a printer (HP7760). I didn't really need a new printer, I'm not sure when I'm going to set up this new printer.

AUGUST: Umm lets see, my Brother Erik and his family from NC visited for a few days along with his son Jake from PA (Who came on his own). He's 18 and a recent High School Grad and wants to be a rock star, he plays guitar and was in a band that recently broke up because their singer is moving to VA. OH and I helped with the KAT Auditions for Company which I'm doing the props for, why? I don't know, as a board member I had to do something for the show (our big Fall Show) and since I'm not auditioning and don't really like doing anything else technical and all the technical things I like doing were taken already, I chose props. First and last time. I am really really tired of doing tech stuff.

SEPTEMBER: KAT had a special fundraising Gala on the 16th in Rockville at the Glenview Mansion at the Rockville Civic Center Park. I did some updating to my website, mostly minor tweeks to fix links to new pages. Added a DVD page to it, and started using DVDSpot.com a member database that tracks your DVD collection. To see my ever growing collection visit "My DVDspot Collection" at http://www.dvdspot.com/member=klandersen. My sister visited again at the end of the month after she spent most of a weekend in New York. OH and the Washington Nationals finished the season at exactly 50%, they lost the same number of games they won and finished last in their division. So Sad.

OCTOBER: In my search for collection tracking sites I found an OK one for CDs called CDcomplete.com. It doesn't have much detail but has the basics. It will do for now for my CDs. I think. It has the track listing and sometimes the cover art (If someone has submitted it to the site). I also found a site called rateyourmusic.com it is pretty good but it doesn't have track listings (Supposedly they are working on adding those) but the do have the media options of cassette, vinyl, CD, MP3, and even 8-track tapes. They also sometimes have the cover art in a decent viewing size. The downside is it is incredibly slow. Pretty cool. OH and KATs Production of Company opened up and is doing rather well.

NOVEMBER: Company continues this month and just improves with every performance. On a Side-by-Side Note: I Saw the closing Sunday Matinee of a rival production of Company it was just OK, it wasn't as tight as the KAT production and didn't have as much dance choreography but was OK. The acting was...well it depended on the individual actor/character. So overall it was Company Lite. I also Dealt with a little stress, causes of which I don't want to mention here. In the Oh Yeah Yippie Yahooie Section (heavy sarcasm), I will be operating both lights and sound for KAT 2ND Stage's production of Charlotte's Web at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn, and doing a small walk-on part of Uncle the prize winning Pig. It opens Friday 02 December (with a preview on 01 December) and runs 3 weeks. Thanksgiving was as usual at my cousin's in Centerville, VA.

DECEMBER:.The year has flown by too fast, It doesn't feel like December. It feels more like June or July only colder. Charlotte's Web is going well, but can be exhausting at times. NEVER AGAIN will I attempt to do BOTH Lights and Sound for a show. There is just too much to concentrate on, and those simultaneous cues suck. Fortunately there were not too many of those type of cues and we were using CDs for the sound, and a light-board with programed cues and a GO! Button. Ah gotta love moddren technology when it woykes, and we all know what to call it when it don't. I'm not even going to go into the concept of doing tech and acting at the same time. Good thing the part was just 5 lines, even then I said them differently everytime. Ah the thilling excitement of live theatre. Lets see for Christmas Eve spent the early afternoon for Lunch/Dinner at my brother's condo (Neil and his wife Beverly) in Gaithersburg, MD. Christmas Day was a nice get-together once again at my cousin's in Centerville, VA. I almost didn't have any New Years Eve plans, but I got an invitation to a Progressive New Years Eve Party. Apparently every hour on the hour you ring in the New Year for whatever region is having it's midnight. Sounds fun.

Miscellaneous: Can you believe it? The Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys both times they played them this season. WOW they haven't done that in over 10 years or so, heck they haven't beaten the Cowboys once in over 7 years. They also might, just might get into the playoffs. YEAH! In the off season the Washington Nationals are making some off-season trades that are trading away many of my fave players. Eeek!

Plans for 2006:

  • Try to keep this silly tradition going and actually send it out.
  • Keep up on the maintenance on my new Add Free website that I am paying the big bucks to keep. Just hope my credit cards stop exploding.
  • I hope my 2002 car outlasts the payments for it. Only a little more than a year's worth of payments to go.
  • Maintain the email list I send this thing to so I don't have to keep re-creating it each year.
  • Maybe set up that darn new printer, I got back in July.
  • Direct a show for SSTG?
  • Catch up with entering in my CD, Record and tape collections at those CD sites.
See Ya!

Kirk
