Kirks Year In ReviewHAPPY HOLIDAYS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!December 2008
|
Welcome to my 9th Annual Year In Review Holiday letter. If you have received this letter in years past you know the drill. Lets get onto the review. | Work at CSC is the same old same old, that is to say it is BLAH!.JANUARY: New Years I stayed home bored, watched the ball drop on TV, yawn. 2008 started blah, most of the month was just Uh. For Theatre stuff KAT received 16 WATCH nominations for the 2007 season the awards ceremony is on 02 March. I have resigned as WATCH Rep for KAT, but am still an alternate judge yeah! Not sure if I'll go to the ceremony this year, I'm stage managing Beau Jest for SSTG which has a matinee that afternoon. Auditioned for a show at SILVER SPRING STAGE but wasn't cast, oh well. FEBRUARY: Basically doing just a little bit of this and a little bit of that, including watching The Super Bowl #42 in which the New York Giants beat the previously unbeaten New England Patriots. Glad to see a ton of fair-weather fans get served some humble pie. SSTG's Beau Jest came and went. Getting geared up for the 2008 Baseball Season, GO NATS!. Hey we had an extra day this month, woooh whooo! (I'm updating this on Quantum Leap Day, Yeah!) MARCH: I don't have a moving date yet, but already I have a paranoid feeling that I am way behind in packing up the house. Lets see, I opened a myspace account up (or was that last month?) anyway my handle there is CaptKirk42 since my standard klandersen is taken by some Norwegian chick. I also now have a facebook account, they use your name there (or whatever you provide as a name bwaahahaha). So now I can hang with all the cool kids, because they all use both. Facebook seems to be easier to use, and build up a friends list, maybe that is just me. APRIL: Wow April already, and there went my Birthday. Bang! Zoom! (But no fireworks). Saw my first game at the Nationals New Stadium on the 10th. Man what a place, even the nosebleed seats are great. The Nats played a noble game but ended up losing to the Marlins 4-3. UGh! My sister came into town to take care of some house business, she is here till May 11. MAY: May has come in like a jaguar. The clear-out/clean-up/move-out of the old family homestead has begun. Thought I had found a place in Gaithersburg, round the block from my brother and his wife. It didn't pan out. JUNE: Well the last weekend of May through the first weekend of this month I ran the sound for SSTG's production of Much Ado About Nothing by that Shakespeare guy. It was billed as readers theatre with a twist, the twist being it wasn't too much readers theatre. Well the house is getting painted in preparation for the sale. I was cast in SSTG's upcoming production of My Emperor's New Clothes by Larry Shue. This will be the 3rd production of that show I have worked on in some way, the first one I'll actually be in. I play the part of Clodney one of the bungling villians. JULY: July already? I'm in rehearsals for My Emperor's New Clothes which are going well. I was having problems with a book collection tracking site I use. Their forum was taken down and I had been trying to login using one too many characters for my password. Anyway since bibliophil.org is having some issues, I searched around for a similar site, and found one I like that is free and not just a trade site. It is GoodReads.com. It has a more user friendly but more professional looking feel to it than bibliophil. The house is in the process of getting it's final painting inside and out. Very good news on the apartment front. I finally found one. I should be moved in early August, which is when the old homestead is being put up on the market. AUGUST: I moved to my apartment on the first, lots of adventure too much to tell all here. Took way to long to get cable hooked up and internet package (had to add landline also, but that is another story for another time). My Emperor's New Clothes opened up well, and had a very good run. Loads of fun and hopefully enjoyed by all who saw it. SEPTEMBER: Hard to believe it has been a full year since Mom passed. I've only been in my apartment one full month, but it doesn't feel like "Home" yet. I still have tons of "unpacking" and organizing to do. Well the old homestead went on the market round the beginning of August and looks like it sold. Closing is October 15? I'm not sure of the exact amount of time it was on the market, I think it was barely a month. Well in December I will be making a fooley of myself for SSTG with It's A Wonderful Life: The Radio Show I'm signed up as the Foley (sound guy) Operator and "various disgruntled citizens of Bedford Falls" It runs Fridays and Saturdays Dec 5- 20. Should be tons of fun. OCTOBER: The house sale has gone OK I think, haven't heard about any snags. Rehearsals for It's A Wonderful Life: The Radio Show have just started. One of my favorite websites shut down. DVDSpot.com (which was bought by CNET.com about 2 years ago) was shut down, on the 15th (they announced it on 29Sept08). It was the best Free online DVD Database that I had found to this date. I have been semi-using DVDAfficiando.com but have many dislikes of it. Many DVDSpot Refugees have gathered at bulletpointreview.com Forum a forum site that was set up within 24 hours of the announcement of the DVDSpot closing. I started keeping track of my DVDs with the download of DVDProfiler and coughed up the $30 (one time only payment) for the unlimited upgrade. Without this upgrade if you have a collection of more than 50 DVDs you get locked out of some of the more favorable program functions. The biggest difference is DVDSpot was an Online ONLY database, and DVDProfiler is a Program you download and work offline, if you want you can upload your collection, but you can't work with it online. I have started to try to teach myself how to do CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for my website, since CSS is the way ta go with modren 'puters. Easier said than done. NOVEMBER: Presidential Election, Smelection. Brack OBamma I am not a fan. There is something about him that doesn't sit with me right. It's A Wonderful Life: The Radio Show rehearsals are going smoothly. I am just at a time in my life where I hate the rehearsal process and just enjoy the performance part. DECEMBER: Well beleive it or not tech week for It's A Wonderful Life was mostly harmless and stressless. The show went very well and was fun to do. I'm slowly getting my apartment unpacked and organized in some ways. There is tons more to do. Miscellaneous: You can read my previous Years in Review (2000 - 2007) at my website at klandersen.com/yearinreview.html. Plans for 2009:
